Croeso cynnes iawn i Jarel!

A packed St. German's witnessed the licensing of the Rev'd Canon Jarel Robinson-Brown by Bishop Mary Stallard on Saturday, March 23rd. It was a wonderful occasion to lift our hearts, especially for the people of St. German's who have been without a priest of their own for the last three years. It was also heart-warming to see the high regard for Jarel from his friends and colleagues from all areas of his life. We pray for a blessed and fruitful ministry here in the Ministry Area of Roath & Cathays.
A letter of introduction from our Vicar-Designate for St. German's, Rev'd Canon Jarel Robinson-Brown -
Croeso yn ôl i Gymru!
Dear Friends,
I am absolutely thrilled and humbled to have been invited to join you all in the Roath and Cathays Ministry Area from March this year! I thought it might be helpful to have a little introduction from me.
I trained for ordination at Wesley House, Cambridge (2010-2013) and some of you will know that I lived in Cardiff from 2013 for five years whilst serving my first appointment as Methodist Minister of Rumney and Birchgrove so I know Cardiff well and had a wonderful time serving God in Wales. After my time there I went to be Methodist Minister in South East London and Associate Chaplain at Kings College London before serving my curacy in the City of London at St Botolph’s, Aldgate where I’ve been since 2021.
Alongside priesthood I have a foot in scholarship, currently pursuing doctoral studies on the Body and Desire with Fr John Behr at the University of Aberdeen (by distance!). I am very passionate about making theology accessible to folk in parishes and my main area of interest is the History of Christianity from St Mark to Muhammad (1st - 7th century). This often involves trips for research in North Africa and Egypt about which I’m very passionate.
I am glad to be returning to Wales after some time back in London where alongside 4 siblings I was born, and although Cardiff will be very different to the City of London I am excited to be serving in the Church in Wales, and keen to see what God has in store for us in Roath and Cathays. These are challenging times in the life of the world but I am confident in God’s Spirit continuing to be at work wherever Christians commit to love and faithful service and I still strongly believe that we have Good News for the world which transforms lives and communities.
Please keep me in your prayers as I prepare for the move! I look forward to meeting you all, to working alongside my colleagues Stewart, Caroline and Irving and to introducing you to my wonderful “Pastoral Assistant” Seb my 9 year old Jack Russell who is ruled by his stomach but thankfully very good in Church! See you soon.
In Christ,
Father Jarel
